As part of the Connecticut Rivers Council STEM Merit Badge Experience, the Archery, Rifle Shooting, Shotgun Shooting, and Wood Carving merit badges will be offered at Camp Workcoeman on Saturday, October 25 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.

The Citizens of Shawtown is Camp Workcoeman’s volunteer support group. Over the last 30 years, the group has provided tremendous contributions of skill, materials, and labor for new camp projects as well as maintaining the existing camp facility. Having a camp support group like the Citizens of Shawtown is an invaluable asset to the existence of a successful camp facility. The Citizens of Shawtown sponsor workdays each year and also sponsor the annual Beaver Day on the first Saturday in June, where many volunteers come together to help complete numerous projects to improve the camp. Additionally, the group helps in funding various projects by holding an annual fund raising steak dinner each May.

It is with great sadness that I must announce that our friend Mo Roy passed away on Sunday, July 13 from his cancer illness.
Mo served Scouting in this council area as a professional for over 40 years. After his retirement, he continued his involvement in Scouting as chairman of Camp Workcoeman’s support group, the Citizens of Shawtown.
His greatest strength was his professional and friendly approach to his job. Mo always supported the efforts of Scouting volunteers. You could always count on Mo!
When he retired, Scouting lost an old-time professional. With his passing, humanity has lost a true gentleman.
I will miss my friend as will those who knew him in the Scouting family.
Camp Workcoeman is located in the hills of northwest Connecticut in scenic New Hartford and Barkhamsted. The camp consists of approximately 427 acres on the shore of beautiful West Hill Pond, possibly the cleanest in Connecticut.
Established in 1924, it is one of the oldest continuously operated Scout camps in the country. For 100 years, thousands of Scouts and Scouters have had unforgettable Scouting experiences at Camp Workcoeman. This fine tradition of Scouting continues today.
