The Covered Wagon Derby is a Wild West Cub Scout event that enables our youth to use their skills, express their spirit, and work together in teams to overcome challenges and have fun!
Full Weekend Option: This option includes two nights of tent camping, the Covered Wagon Derby, Saturday breakfast, lunch and dinner served out of the dining hall, a Birds of Prey Show featuring these real life creatures and a campwide campfire on Saturday night.
Derby Only Option: For this Scouts will arrive with their dens by 8:30am for check-in, then participate in the Covered Wagon Derby starting at 9:00am and running until 2:00pm. This includes lunch.
This one-and-a-half day course is designed as an introduction to the Cub Scout outdoor program for leaders interested in adding a camping component to their Pack activities. BALOO training consists of an online pre-requisite component in addition to an overnight hands on practical. BSA’s Cub Scout level camping policies will be taught along with the discovery of the necessary tools to help units carry our a successful camping experience. Completion of this course is mandatory for a MINIMUM OF ONE adult on a Pack overnighter.
Camp Workcoeman is located in the hills of northwest Connecticut in scenic New Hartford and Barkhamsted. The camp consists of approximately 427 acres on the shore of beautiful West Hill Pond, possibly the cleanest in Connecticut.
Established in 1924, it is one of the oldest continuously operated Scout camps in the country. For 98 years, thousands of Scouts and Scouters have had unforgettable Scouting experiences at Camp Workcoeman. This fine tradition of Scouting continues today.
