The Great Workcoeman Boat Race — August 22, 2020

We are pleased to announce The Great Workcoeman Boat Race taking place on Saturday, August 22, 2020. Scouts can register for boating and swimming events as individuals, buddies, and teams. The event will take place from 9:30 AM until 3:30 PM, and lunch will be provided. Required swim tests will be administered Saturday, August 15, 2020 from 9 AM until noon. A medical form with Parts A, B, and D is required. All CDC, state, and Scouting COVID-19 guidelines will be followed. A mask is required. Please see the event flier for more information and visit the Council website to register. The cost is $20 per participant.

July Shawtown Work Day

The next Shawtown work day is scheduled for Saturday, July 25th from 9 AM until 3 PM. All Council, state, and CDC COVID-19 guidance must be followed including masks and social distancing. In order to ensure everyone’s safety, please bring your own LUNCH and MASK. To ensure proper group numbers and for contact tracing purposes, you MUST confirm your attendance to Brian Cornell ([email protected]) by July 21st.

Do NOT come to camp if you are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms that cannot be attributed to another known health condition including but not limited to: new shortness of breath, cough, sore throat, fever over 100 °F or sense of having a fever, sweating, chills, any loss of taste or smell, unexplained muscle aches, nausea, or diarrhea.

Do NOT come to camp if you have been in close contact (within six feet for more than 15 minutes) with someone known to have COVID-19 (outside of a patient care setting while using appropriate PPE), have been told by a public health official or employer that you may have been exposed to COVID-19 in the past 14 days, or have anyone in your household showing COVID-19 symptoms.

Do NOT come to camp if you have returned within the past 14 days from domestic travel to a region that is under stay-at-home orders, states that meet Connecticut mandated quarantine requirements, or from a destination outside the United States.

  • The $50 campsite reservation fee is waived.

Fall Programs at Camp Workcoeman

Scouting programs are planned for the this fall at Camp Workcoeman. Participation can be troop, individual, or family. These activities include Scouts BSA, Family Camping, and Webelos Woods weekends in September, a special Trail to Eagle experience in October, and Winter Camp in December.

Resumption of In-Person Scouting Activities

As of June 17th, units in the Connecticut Rivers Council can meet in person per the updated state guidelines. Maximum of 25 people indoors and up to 100 people outdoors. Social distancing and masks are still required when guidelines apply. The chairman of the Council Risk Management Committee has come up with the following guidelines:

  • Remember all aspects of youth protection.
  • There must be no overnight camping.
  • Activity size must be no larger than the outdoor group size allowed by the state (currently 25 indoors and 100 outdoors), counting all adults and youth.
  • No participants can show evidence of any aspect of illness, nor have been exposed to a person with COVID-19 within the last two weeks. Taking temperatures is recommended (no participation over 100 °F).
  • Participants can only be transported by their parent or guardian. The purpose of this is to adhere to social distancing guidelines.
  • Social distancing no less than 6' must be observed at all times, including meals and breaks.
  • There can be no shared food or drink.
  • Units must be prepared to disinfect bathrooms between uses.
  • Masks must be worn at all times, except while eating.
  • Any adult or youth becoming ill during the trip needs to be treated as a medical emergency.

About Camp

Camp Workcoeman is located in the hills of northwest Connecticut in scenic New Hartford and Barkhamsted. The camp consists of approximately 427 acres on the shore of beautiful West Hill Pond, possibly the cleanest in Connecticut.

Established in 1924, it is one of the oldest continuously operated Scout camps in the country. For 99 years, thousands of Scouts and Scouters have had unforgettable Scouting experiences at Camp Workcoeman. This fine tradition of Scouting continues today.
