1 November 2021 — Effective 1 November, the Connecticut Rivers Council updated its COVID-19 mitigation guidance to allow for cabin camping; proof of complete COVID-19 vaccination or a negative test is required. Please see ctscouting.org for full details.
Due to current realities, the Connecticut Rivers Council executive board announced on 23 September that it has decided to suspend week long summer camp operations at Camp Workcoeman. There will, however, still be be a summer season at Workcoeman in 2021, but it will be different from what it has been in the past. While details are still being worked out, we hope to offer short-term summer camping programs as well as day and family camping opportunities. A lot will happen between now and then (including with the course of the pandemic), but we promise to keep you informed and hope to see you on the shores of West Hill Pond in the not too distant future.
The next Shawtown work day is scheduled for Saturday, September 26th from 9 AM until 3 PM; this workday will coincide with an Order of the Arrow weekend. All Council, state, and CDC COVID-19 guidance must be followed including masks and social distancing. In order to ensure everyone’s safety, please bring your own LUNCH and MASK. To ensure proper group numbers and for contact tracing purposes, you MUST confirm your attendance to Brian Cornell ([email protected]) by Wednesday, September 23rd.
Day only Scouting programs are planned for the this fall at Camp Workcoeman. Participation can be troop, individual, or family. These activities include Scouts BSA, Cub Scout, family, and Webelos weekends in September, a special Trail to Eagle experience in October, and Winter Camp in December.

We are pleased to announce The Great Workcoeman Boat Race taking place on Saturday, August 22, 2020. Scouts can register for boating and swimming events as individuals, buddies, and teams. The event will take place from 9:30 AM until 3:30 PM, and lunch will be provided. Required swim tests will be administered Saturday, August 15, 2020 from 9 AM until noon. A medical form with Parts A, B, and D is required. All CDC, state, and Scouting COVID-19 guidelines will be followed. A mask is required. Camp Workcoeman is located in the hills of northwest Connecticut in scenic New Hartford and Barkhamsted. The camp consists of approximately 427 acres on the shore of beautiful West Hill Pond, possibly the cleanest in Connecticut.
Established in 1924, it is one of the oldest continuously operated Scout camps in the country. For 97 years, thousands of Scouts and Scouters have had unforgettable Scouting experiences at Camp Workcoeman. This fine tradition of Scouting continues today.
