All Regularly Scheduled Summer Activities Canceled: On 12 May 2020, the Connecticut Rivers Council announced that all regularly scheduled summer activities at its camps have been canceled for 2020. On 18 May 2020, the State of Connecticut Office of Early Childhood issued revised guidance, in concordance with Executive Order No. 7PP, stating that “[resident camps] will not be permitted to operate during the declared state of emergency unless and until permitted to do so by order of the Governor.” Due to the severe restrictions that have been placed on day camps, the Council has decided to cancel all day camps as well.
Activities Possible in Late Summer and Early Fall: Here at Camp Workcoeman we know how important a summer camp experience is for you and your Scouts. As such, we are brainstorming and beginning to plan activities for the late summer and early fall in anticipation of lessened restrictions. While we do not yet know what these activities will look like, we do know that health and safety are our top priorities and that the nature of these activities will depend highly on the guidance we receive from local, state, and federal health authorities.
Virtual Camp Experience: For those interested, the Connecticut Rivers Council is offering a new, virtual camp experience for both Cub Scouts and Scouts BSA: Camp Kinda-Like-A. Please visit the Council website for more information and to register.

A excerpt from a letter from Brian Cornell, chairman of the Citizens of Shawtown:
The COVID-19 crisis is something that none of us have experienced before and in everything that we do moving forward, we all must do our part to end this situation. As each day has ticked by over the past weeks and months, it has become clear to me that any attempt to hold our Annual Steak and Chicken Dinner and Silent Auction on June 6th safely, will just not happen as scheduled this year. I do not make this decision lightly and have discussed this at length with Lou and Frank for their valuable input prior to making my decision. Ultimately, the safety and well-being of all is paramount and comes first!
That is not to say a similar event cannot be planned for later this Summer or Fall, but we need to continue proper due diligence at this time until the experts and many others can tell us more. As you know, the Citizens of Shawtown rely heavily on this annual fundraiser to assist us in our support of our beloved Camp Workcoeman!
